About SCAR

The South County Animal Rescue (SCAR) was founded in January 2016. To date, SCAR has rescued over 2,000 animals that would have been given away, surrendered or abandoned in rural South Monterey County. We also help our shelter partners by taking in shelter animals when a foster is available. We are entirely volunteer operated and work function in a foster based system. SCAR is proud to serve our South County community and save the lives of innocent animals.

Our Mission

South County Animal Rescue was established to provide rescue and assistance for domestic animals. Our goal is to significantly reduce the homeless population of domestic animals in South County through safe rescue and adoption services, awareness and education.  We strive to establish relationships with other rescue agencies and collaborate to save more lives.

We offer South Monterey County residents a variety of animal services. Here is a list of the services we provide.

  • Dog and Cat adoption placement (Puppies 'n kittens too!) in partnership with petsmart charities at petsmart Salinas

  • Spay and neuter assistance program for south county owned pets

  • Support low-cost pet vaccination clinics in the south monterey county

  • Feral and community cat/kitten Trap, Neuter, Return
